Manage Your Allergies To Sleep More Soundly

Are your allergies acting up with the changing seasons? Are those allergies causing poor sleep? There are things you can do that can help!

There are very few things that are more of a nuisance than allergy season. Runny, stuffy noses, sneezing, coughing and pressure in your head are all symptoms that not only make it difficult to go about our day-to-day activities, but make it nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep! The congestion makes it more difficult to breathe, and the feeling of sleeping with your mouth wide open, waking up to a dry mouth and sore throat the next day is one everyone can agree we could live without. When we sleep like this, it makes it much more challenging to take on the next day as your best self.

Instead of letting allergies take control of our lives every time the seasons change, let’s take initiative and prevent them from taking hold before they even have the chance! Here are a few tips and tricks of things to try as the seasons begin to change, and the bitter cold air begins to blow in:

1. Try an air purifier

An air purifier has shown to help with quality of sleep – allergy sufferers or not! Air purifiers help remove those common allergens such as mold, pollen, pet dander, and dust. There are a variety of air purifiers, and some may even have other benefits toward your sleep such as white noise in the background, if that is something you prefer.

2. Keep windows and doors closed

This will prevent pollen, one of the most common allergens, from entering your place of sleep. When possible, keeping the air conditioning on in the car and at home helps with this as well. Keep the allergens out so you can keep the sweet dreams in.

3. Clear house of dust and pet dander

If you are like me, you might love cuddling in bed with your dog or other pets! The only problem is, pet dander, especially in your bed, can lead to allergies flaring up, and therefore discomfort while sleeping. If you just can’t resist having your furry friend in bed, make sure you are vacuuming your bedroom regularly, and washing the bedding that comes closest in contact to your skin regularly to keep it fresh and clean.
