Stop Hitting Snooze and Seize the Day

Don’t hit snooze that third time, and instead find new ways to take on your day!

Some mornings, it can feel impossible to get out of bed. I have been there too! The dreaded alarm goes off on a Tuesday after a long weekend and your eyelids feel so heavy you cannot imagine leaving your warm and cozy sleep sanctuary.

While it can be easy to stay in bed until 10 minutes before your first meeting of the morning, hitting snooze over and over each morning only has negative impacts on how we approach each day. Here are just a few of the things that happen when we repeatedly hit snooze and instead of taking on our days head on:

You feel groggier

The more we hit snooze and longer we take to actually wake our body up and start the day, the more groggy we will feel. Studies show that each time your alarm goes off and abruptly wakes you up, the more grogginess we experience throughout the day.

You miss out on productive mornings

Just as important as our nighttime routine is to prepare us for a night of deep sleep, our morning routine is just as crucial to set us up to how we greet the day. By hitting snooze six times and missing out on 20 minutes of our morning, we might have to skip a step in our morning routine, rush to get ready, and now have thrown off the momentum of the entire day.

You are not getting deep sleep

Hitting snooze an extra three times will not actually allow you to have additional meaningful, deep sleep. The time in between alarms does not allow for your body to fall back into a deep sleep, and therefore does not count toward your total amount of quality hours.

You hold yourself back from achieving your goals

Instead of snoozing, try to add something from your list of short or long-term goals to your morning routine. With the extra 20 minutes you can gain each morning, you can accomplish one additional thing that you couldn’t before! Do you want to start each day with writing up a to-do list? Read a few pages from the book you have been trying to finish? Incorporate daily positive affirmations to your morning routine? Pick one goal that you have been putting off for too long, and start working toward it each day with the few extra minutes you get back in the morning!

If you want to wake up feeling so rested and recovered you don’t need to hit snooze, I recommend adding the True Temp Mattress Layer from Sleep Number to your sleep environment. A mattress layer is the one product you can add that will transform your sleep environment the most! This one in particular incorporates True Temp™ technology that will move heat and humidity away, continuously adapting to help keep you comfortable throughout the night. I especially love how cool and plush this topper feels. It adds just the right touch of comfort to complement the performance of your mattress and/or mattress pad. Plus, there are four corner anchor bands that easily slip over your mattress to help it stay in place.
