Creative Celebrations for Christmas in July

Channel your inner creativity for these mood-boosting activities this Christmas in July

Did you know that Christmas comes more than once a year? July 24th and 25th is “Christmas in July”! Originating from a summer camp in North Carolina in the 1930s, Christmas in July is a great excuse to enjoy time with family and beat the summer heat.

Christmas is one of the times of year that I feel happiest. I love being surrounded by loved ones and showing my appreciation through quality time and reflection on the year. July 24 and 25, 2021 is the perfect excuse to get creative and spread that same holiday cheer by celebrating Christmas in July - especially after a year where many people did not get to reunite with loved ones for the previous holiday.

Here are some fun tips to inspire creativity and try out some mood-boosting activities to celebrate the holiday:

Bring out elf on the shelf

Elf on the shelf is a fan-favorite tradition in my family, and what more fun than to bring back out the elf for some summer activities? Dress him up in sunglasses or a Hawaiian t-shirt and bring him out by the pool or on a bike ride. Get in touch with your creative side to get the whole family excited about Christmas in July. Maybe even set up the tree!

Give a simple gift to a friend of family member you have not seen in a while

There is never a bad time of year to reconnect with a loved one and remind them you appreciate them. Use this Christmas in July as an excuse to express gratitude to those who you may not have told enough recently. Stick to a simple gift like a summer candle or pair of summer pajamas for a hot sleeper. Sunburst loved the matching human + guinea pig hat and scarf set from Cat Scratch Creations https://www.instagram.com/catscratchcreations/!

Cook a delicious meal

As Christmas in July falls on a weekend, this is the perfect time to get the entire family together for a delicious meal. Who said turkey and mashed potatoes can only be enjoyed in December? Make your favorite dish with a summer twist by incorporating some fresh corn on the cob or cold Christmas cocktail margaritas. Save the pumpkin pie for dessert and try swapping out for cool, refreshing ice cream sandwiches!

S'mores Gingerbread Houses

One of my favorite Christmas crafts to make with the family is getting together to put together a gingerbread house. The Christmas in July substitution can be a “gingerbread house” summer version made of graham crackers, roasted marshmallows, and chocolate. Yum!

Frozen Hot Chocolate

What do you get when you combine a Christmas classic (hot chocolate) with a summertime favorite snack (ice cold slushies)? Frozen hot chocolate! This is a fun treat to make with the whole family to accompany any Christmas in July festivities.

Cuddle up for a movie under the True Temp Blanket

Put on a Christmas movie classic such as my favorite, Polar Express, and get comfortable under the True Temp Blanket from Sleep Number which is large enough to fit across the whole couch! The temperature regulating qualities in this versatile blanket will have you feeling comfy cozy like Christmastime without getting too hot - since it is still July after all!

Whatever you do this Christmas in July, make sure you take the weekend to rest and relax with a great night’s sleep so you can take on the second half of the year with a positive attitude and achieve your dreams. There is nothing like a great night’s sleep to inspire creativity and happiness in the way you approach the day.
